This charming and luxury hotel, the former mansion of Claudio Martínez de Pinillos, the Villanueva Count, fascinates the visitors with its sobriety and intimacy. Its homely atmosphere, the breezy inner courtyard, its spacious corridors and its beautiful stained-glass windows, combine to create an ambiance of authentic colonial beauty, which perfectly harmonizes with the most modern comfort. The hotel, exquisitely conceived for lovers of cigars, has very cozy rooms that were named after the famous Cuban tobacco fields.
In La Casa del Habano, cigars from the best brands wait to be tasted and, if you please, a distinguished private room is at your disposal for this purpose. With a personalized and preferential service, the hospitable personnel of the hotel welcomes you to a quite place par excellence, right on the core of the old Havana.
The Hotel Conde de Villanueva is situated in the heart of the historic Havana, on the corner of Mercaderes and Lamparilla streets.
We spent the last night of our holiday in Cuba here and so I splashed out and booked a mini suite, which turned out to be enormous (an extensive bathroom plus enormous bedroom) and 3 balconies. Unfortunately, because of the heat we had to keep the shutters drawn all the time. The bed was huge and comfortable.
Although the service was not effusive, I found it adequate and we were able to check in to our room at 11am rather than the expected 4pm. Unusually for us, we ate in the hotel restaurant and were impressed. It was very good value and the fish (lobster, prawns and fish) were the best we'd had all holiday. Breakfast (served in another restaurant) was nothing special, but OK.
