Cienfuegos is well worth a visit, but perhaps for only one night (if staying in Trinidad later). We drove from Havana (and yes getting out of the city is just as bad as everyone tells you it will be). The staff were very friendly and helpfully parked the hire car in secure parking for us. Our room overlooked the pedestrianised side street, and was huge. We ate in the hotel both nights (the paladar we were planning to eat at was closed). We found the food to be excellent and service attentive and friendly. We tried to go with the flow and were surprised at what we could sleep through. The pool is an oasis of calm and the roof bar is quiet but good fun. The La Union cocktail is delicious. The downstairs bar is dead at night but lively during the day when the pool is in use. We found breakfast to be acceptable and to compare well with French hotels.
