Hotel Sevilla, Old Havana, Havana, Cuba

The Hotel Sevilla is a masterpiece of colonial architecture, luxurious and familiar, which welcomes its visitors in the best tradition of Havana hospitality. When it opened its doors on March 22, 1908, it became Havana´s leading turn-of-the-century luxury hotel. From the elaborate facade to the lovely Patio Sevillano (Sevillian Courtyard), it recreates an authentically Spanish atmosphere, whose architectural and decorative elements show a market Mudejar (Spanish Arab) influence.

Among its most luxurious areas are the lobby and the unique Roof Garden Restaurant, located on the top floor, which combines exquisite luxury and excellent service and cousine, with exceptional views of Old and Modern Havana.

Traditional and classic, the Hotel Sevilla enjoys a privileged location next to Havana´s beautiful Paseo del Prado. Just a few steps away from the Museo de Bellas Artes and the architectural treasures of Old Havana.

Location: The Sevilla is situated in the heart of the historic Havana, on the well-known Paseo del Prado.

We spent two nights in the Sevilla at the start of our stay in Cuba, and having read some of the reviews on this site we were unsure what to expect. We found the room clean with plenty of storage space and a working fridge and safe, though on one evening the hot water was temperamental. That said, a cool shower in a country with temperatures like Cuba is a much more pleasant prospect than the same thing in the UK!

I very much liked the downstairs courtyard with live music at the bar, and the restaurant on the roof was lovely. We got a good deal on the Sevilla through Captivating Cuba when we booked our flights, but when we returned to Havana later in the holiday and enquired about the price it seemed ridiculous that they charge 130CUC per night, when the much more impressive Hotel Nacionale for example is only 150CUC. In general, though, the best value places we stayed were casas partcular (about 30CUC per night), and in Havana there are so many to choose from. The quality is often excellent.
