Hotel Valencia, Old Havana, Havana, Cuba

The old house of Alderman Sotolongo, today the Valencia hotel, was originally built to be a house at the end of the 18th century. The hotel is located just a few meters away from the Arm's and St. Francis of Assisi's Squares. It has a very cosy bar called Nostalgia, which is a bohemian place that is decorated in the 1950's atmosphere.

One thing that many visitors to the Hotel Valancia in Havana praise about the hotel is the world class paella the hotel's restaurant serves - and this has been recognised on the international stage, winning the ``best international paella contest'' in Sueca, Spain, a couple of years running. . A beautiful inner courtyard with exuberant vegetation: a wonderful place for resting and refreshing with pleasant cocktails, gives the hotel its cosy ambiance.

Located in Old Havana, just a few meters from the Arm's & Saint Francis of Asis Squares.

Hostal Valencia is great, I wouldn't have changed a thing. All of these little weird mishaps make it memorable. It's a great little hotel for the price especially if you cut costs between two people, and (after pushing our way gently into Valencia) we had a "low ceiling" room that was half the size of my duplex at home. It had air conditioning, clean beds, a working toilet, shower, and small little windows so you could see outside, rather cozy and fun. What more could you ask for? There was even breakfast included, and there was so much to choose from.

Overall, the location is right smack where all the tourists and tourist attractions are and it feels comfortable and safe. I would definitely suggest going elsewhere at some point to really experience Cuba, like staying with families and visiting small villages outside of Havana, but if you're more into the "settle down and relax" side of things, this seemed more than appropriate to me. I spent 10 days with families across the west end of Cuba and then stayed for three days at Hostal Valencia at the end of our trip, this seemed like a good balance. Maybe spending your entire trip at Hostal Valencia wouldn't be so great, but it is worth a stop at some point. Lastly, this was my girlfriends first time out of North America, she's somewhat of a princess and yet she survived and enjoyed it. So there you go, good location, good food, good times.
